A little about me to start off, so you might all know who I am and what I'm about, then I can get on to the 'interesting' blogs that I have been thinking about writing.

My name is John Whitehouse and I reside in Toronto Canada. I am a divorced father who spends almost half of my time with my two girls. One is a young teenager, the other is almost there, so needless to say the estrogen and hormones in my hose make me stressed most of the time. They are great kids however, that is when they are not teasing each other to the point where they will need therapy. Did I bring up that I'm not too politically correct yet?

For most of my working life I have been in management in the automotive industry, never really liked the jobs, but the money has kept me there. Over the years most of the companies I have worked for have closed their doors, so I have probably worked for more compaines than one can imagine. Since this last recession though, I have been working through a career change, and am now doing photography. The money is not the same, and things are a tad tight, but I'm overjoyed to finally be my own boss and be in charge of my own future. This in itself counteracts the hormonal stresses my daughters put on me.

I still play my guitars regularly, though I'm not the musician I was in my youth when I played many of the more predominant Toronto clubs in various bar bands for many years. Instead I have been focusing on song writing to try to let my creative genius, (yeah, that's what I call it) run free. To add to that creative genius thing, I am also writing a book/journal which will be given to my daughters when I pass away. It is kind of a life lesson book with stories of their youth, not to mention my last ditch effort at immortality. About 200 pages of 'Dad Wisdom' so far, and I'm thinking I might just need another book as life seems to give me the tests first and the lessons after the fact.

Some of my other hobbies include hiking, gardening, mountain biking, geocaching and cooking. I have taken several cooking courses over the years, and am able to cook authentic meals from many cultures, which might explain my rather large belly. This would probably be the place to add now that I am not, have never been, and will never be a vegetarian, though occasionally I do enjoy eating what my food eats.

Oh yeah, about that pipe smoking thing and the reason we are all here. I have been smoking a pipe now for about 27 years or so, starting when I was about 15 because I could not purchase cigarettes. I really do enjoy most types of tobaccos, though those with latakia I prefer most during the cooler months. Probably my favorite type is virginia or virginia/perique, though I could not live happily without my burly or occasional aromatic. My regular rotation of pipes is about 40 in number, and I add some occasionally, though I usually get rid of most of them after a short time as they don't smoke the way I would like them to. There is not a brand or price range I prefer, for me it all about how they smoke. My big goal at the moment is increasing the size of my cellar, as I truly believe that the anti's will accomplish their mission in the not too distant future. Right now I have about 30 lbs. stored, including some (though not too many) of the great tobaccos that are no longer produced such as old Dunhills, Edgeworth, Bohemian Scandal, Balkan Sobraine, Three Nuns and such. Though I really want to smoke most of them because I can't remember them too well, I often think they might make a better investment. So I do a compromise, I smoke some then kick myself in the arse for opening a tin.

I guess that's about it for now. More to come as the mood hits.
