I've been smoking meerschaum pipes for a long, long time. I realize that when they begin to absorb the moisture (saliva) and tobacco mixture, the pure white slowly changes to a dirty brown. I have no problem with this - it gives the pipe some character. However, I wonder if there is some way to keep the exterior clean. I usually just use a damp cloth to wipe off accumulated soot. Does anyone know of any material that can be applied to maintain the meerschaum? I do know that beeswax is often applied to the surface but assume that wears off over time. Any suggestions for maintaining meerschaum will be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.
